Life in a hostel

To change the account from which your rent is debited, please contact the hostel administration.

Tenants have to take care of the payment of the broadcasting fee (formerly "GEZ fees") themselves. This is not included in the rental price. However, students who receive BAföG and do not live with their parents can be exempted from the fees.

Under https://www.greencampus.uni-bayreuth.de/de/carsharing/index.html you will find all information about car sharing at the University of Bayreuth. Commercial offers around the Bayreuth campus can be found, for example, under www.flinkster.de or www.mazda-carsharing.de.

The Studentenwerk Oberfranken employed its own caretakers or external service partners to maintain the student residences. Information or damage reports are passed on with a written fault report; in urgent cases also by telephone.

Our tenants are responsible for the cleaning of their own rooms/apartments and/or shared kitchen or bathroom. The Studentenwerk reserves the right to commission special cleaning services from an external cleaning company if necessary. These costs will be charged to the tenant.

At the beginning of the tenancy, the tenant has to pay a deposit of 220 - 470€ per room, depending on the student residence. The deposit must be transferred at the beginning of the rental period. No interest is paid on the deposit.

The duration of residence is limited in order to provide as many students as possible with affordable housing. The tenancy has a minimum term of 6 months, the regular term of residence is a maximum of 6 semesters or depends on the maximum funding limits of BAföG. More information can be found in the guidelines for the allocation of hostel rooms.

  • an immediate imminent completion of the first state examination, the diploma examination, the bachelor's or master's examination, the preparation of the bachelor's or master's thesis or the teacher training thesis.
  • physical handicap or a serious illness that leads to the maximum duration of support being exceeded.

Applications for extension of the tenancy must be submitted in text form. The deadlines apply for:

Bayreuth<br/>until 31.05. if the rental agreement expires on 30.09. of the same year or until 30.11. if the rental agreement expires on 31.03. of the following year.

Amberg, Coburg, Hof, Münchberg and Weiden<br/>until 30.04. if the rental agreement expires on 31.08. of the same year or until 31.10. if the rental agreement expires on 28.02. of the following year.<br/>

Our rooms are fully furnished with:

  • Wardrobe
  • Shelf
  • Desk and chair
  • Bed with mattress or sleeping couch

The regulations of the local waste disposal companies apply. Please pay attention to local notices on the subject of waste separation. Insufficient waste separation results in higher disposal costs, which all tenants of the hostel have to pay.

In some cases, students can receive housing allowance. You can find more information from the Social counselling of the Studentenwerk Oberfranken.

Internet connections are available in all rooms, the bandwidths, conditions and/or routers vary in all student residences. The costs are almost always included in the rent. In the student residences Adolph Kolping, Münchberg, Weiden Fischerberg and v.-Römer/Dammallee, the tenants must conclude their own contracts.

The equipment in all student residences includes fitted kitchens with electric cooker (in most shared apartments, with oven) and sink. In the shared apartments, the residents share the kitchen. Each tenant is responsible for cleaning. If, due to lack of hygiene or similar, special cleaning by external cleaning companies is necessary, the tenant(s) of the respective flat-sharing community will be invoiced separately.

Washing and drying facilities are available to students in each student residence. The use of the machines must be paid for individually. In the hostels, various payment systems have been installed over time: Vending machines with coins or tokens and some machines cashless with EC and credit cards.

We recommend all tenants, unless you are insured through your family, to take out liability insurance. Damage happens faster than expected and can be very expensive.

Please note the notices on site. In some hostels, external locksmiths (Schlüsseldienste) are commissioned to help you. You have to pay the costs for this directly on site. If the tenant has lost his/her key, the costs for reordering and/or cylinder exchange have to be paid by the tenant.

If you are already a tenant with us and would like to move to another student residence or another type of housing, please submit a new application online. You will then be put on the general waiting list.

If damage has occurred in your room or apartment, simply report this in writing to the caretaker with our fault report.

A monthly advance payment covers utility costs, e.g. heating and hot water supply, electricity as well as water and sewage. Depending on the consumption in the previous year, the advance payment amount is checked each year and adjusted if necessary.

If you should find vermin (e.g. bed bugs) in your room/apartment, please inform the caretaker immediately!

Shopping facilities are only found in the vicinity of some of our student residences.

All rooms are equipped with smoke detectors, some of them centrally connected to a fire alarm system. Any manipulation (dismantling, masking, etc.) will be prosecuted accordingly and any damages resulting from this will be charged. Operating instructions for the smoke alarms can be found in the dormitory descriptions. In case of smoke development due to strong boiling/many candles/shishas or similar, please ventilate strongly and extensively! False alarms can thus be prevented. If a fire brigade mission is triggered by misconduct, you will be charged for this!

We prefer that you do not smoke in your own room. It goes without saying that you will show consideration for your flatmates and neighbours. Please think of your next tenant, because not only all furniture, but also the walls and the floor absorb the smoke and cannot be replaced every time.

Subletting of the rooms and apartments, subject to the General Rental Terms and Conditions, is permitted for a maximum of 3 months and must be registered with the hostel administration beforehand.

Every tenant is responsible for ensuring a healthy indoor climate. Please also note the general conditions (passive ventilation, etc.) that apply in the individual student residences. In the event of mould growth, the caretaker must be informed IMMEDIATELY. Manipulations to the ventilation systems will be invoiced accordingly.You can get more information from our information sheet on the economical use of energy.
